hi!

I noticed recently that Firefox keeps crashing when I try and open new tabs/windows in certain web sites. I would like to be able to use i.e. in this web sites, but lose some important functionality doing so. Using most recent FF build, JAWS 14 and Windows 7. Any ideas?

The latest Firefox is odd. It works best with Jaws 14. Downgrade.
You might still have the problem if you had Jaws 15, but you'd have to see.
If your version before this one was good, just go back.

I downloaded the most recent version of FF onto my work computer, so I don't know if downgrading would solve the problem. How would I find out if a downgrade is the way to go?

Or, I should say, how can I find out what version of FF I have and what version to downgrade to?

by installing a demo of the downgrade. Your Jaws 15 would still work when you use it instead of Jaws 14. I am also havvving this problem and it is most frustrating when I am reading news from the RSS feeds to which I subscribe on web-based readers and click on an item.

That is okay, but I mean installing the previous version of Firefox. I'll have to see how to get them. It doesn't bother me enough.
If Firefox doesn't work on something I use IE and vise versa.

Here is what I was looking for to give you. Of couse they don't suggest downgrading, for obvious reasons, but sometimes using a screen reader is the problem, not the browser. I'd try there suggestions on fixes, but after that, I guess I'd downgrade to see what happens.
It can't hurt. Here's the page. Good luck, and say what your results are if you decide to tackle it.
http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Installing+a+previous+version+of+Firefox
If that doesn't get you there, and honestly, I've only copied it from the page here is how I got there.
I put in the search box
Installing previous versions of firefox.
Now I got this page, and it has lots of information on it.

I tried using Firefox with NVDA instead of Jaws yesterday and it didn't crash so I think it is a Jaws issue rather than a Firefox issue.

Thanks, everyone. I believe that it is a JAWS integration problem, but one of our design team - an accessibility dream - has provided me some workarounds that have made the whole process not so crashy... gone all day with no crash *crosses fingers*

Delete flash history always and it will work great with nvda. Delete the history in flash in control panel

Using NVDA instead of Jaws for Firefox works regardless of what I do with my flash history. It seems no matter what I do, this problem won't go away if I use Jaws so I am greatful for NVDA.

Another question re JAWS and Firefox: Occasionally I will press c or e to route to a combo box or edit field, but when I press enter on it and try to use it or type into it, nothing happens. I try and tab down to it to see if that helps, but it only reads me the page title again.. anyone else experience this?

Still experiencing this problem, and FF is still crashing... even more so since the most recent Jaws 14 update. Is Jaws 15 more stable? If so, I think I can talk to my boss about upgrading my version of JAWS, but if it's not helpful...

Yes, actually. 15 had an update for Firefox recently that should solve some of this.
Test it by loading the demo and seeing. Clean Firefox up if need be, than see.

In the fixing directions it talks about how to reset Firefox to defaults and clean it so that it is brand new, or a clean install.
If you want that posted say so, but you should be able to find it from the other post I made.

LOL I had to reset FF on my home laptop, so I know how to do it. I think I will simply request the JFW update once my boss gets back next week.
